1 Peter

This short letter was written by the Apostle Peter and sent to groups of Christian churches in Asia Minor (modern Turkey), most likely sometime in the mid-60s A.D. The reason for moving to 1 Peter after our series on the biblical theme of Exile last fall is evident from the opening greeting of the letter where we see that it is addressed to the "elect exiles." This letter is a call to God's people to hold fast their new identity in Christ as children of God and citizens of his kingdom. It explores the calling and challenges that such people will face in a world that is increasingly hostile toward them. Ultimately the letter points us over and over again to Jesus as the one who brings redemption, hope, purpose, and direction to those who sojourn as exiles in a land to which they don't truly belong. If you're not familiar with this short letter I'd encourage you to give it a read (it only takes 15-20 minutes).
